DGA Statement on Georgia GOP Primary Runoff Results

DGA Executive Director Meghan Meehan-Draper released the following statement in response to Rick Jackson becoming the Republican nominee for governor in Georgia:

"Rick Jackson is only out for himself - not Georgia. Jackson is running for governor to enrich himself and block anything that protects Georgians from high costs and threats to their health care. While benefiting from a billion dollars in state contracts, Jackson wants to stop the state from expanding Medicaid to hundreds of thousands of Georgians struggling to afford health care. Even Republicans have said he is personally responsible for Georgia's skyrocketing health care costs and have slammed him for his company's record of Medicare fraud. Jackson is so out of touch that he has even bragged about profiting off the tariffs crippling Georgia farmers and companies, and boasted about making money off D.C. Republicans' budget law that is spiking health care costs for Georgia families.

"We look forward to making sure that Jackson spends next year back on his estate in Cumming and gets nowhere near the Governor's Mansion."

• Rick Jackson has faced scrutiny for enriching himself on no-bid state contracts, making over a billion dollars from state agencies that exist to serve Georgians, and which would pose significant conflicts of interest if he were ever elected governor.
• Jackson's company in 2024 agreed to pay $700,000 to "resolve allegations" that they participated in a kickback scheme to bill Medicare for medically unnecessary equipment.
• Jackson has also faced accusations from Burt Jones of defrauding seniors by scamming Medicare through his billion-dollar healthcare company.
• Jackson has even admitted to lining his pockets with Trump's tariffs, even as these cost-raising policies took money directly out of Georgians' pockets.
  • He also admitted to supporting Trump's Big Beautiful Bill because it lowered his own taxes by 40 percent.
  • When asked about the issue of high gas prices, Jackson bragged to voters that he is "the largest outside investor" of an oil refinery in Texas. And when pressed on his position on data centers, he also bragged about investing in one.
