San Antonio, TX - The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) announced that John Moder, Ph.D., has been appointed Interim Chief Executive Officer, beginning October 6, 2025. The interim period takes place during an extended personal leave granted to HACU President and CEO, Antonio R. Flores, Ph.D.
"John Moder has a long history of working with and for HACU in advancing and implementing the Association's mission for decades, and we are grateful he has accepted the interim CEO role to ensure that mission continues" said Juan Muñoz, Ph.D., Chair of HACU's Governing Board and Chancellor of University of California, Merced. "His experience and deep knowledge of HACU, Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs), and the challenges and opportunities in higher education will provide robust and focused leadership during the interim period."
As HACU's Interim CEO, Moder will oversee operations, programs, and strategic initiatives outlined in the 2023-2027 Strategic Plan. The role entails working with HACU's leadership team, member institutions, and partners to continue the expansion of opportunities for all HSIs, their students and communities.
"It is an honor to have been appointed to serve as HACU's Interim CEO," said Moder. "Having previously served as HACU's chief operating officer, as well as president of St. Mary's University, and as a member and chair of the HACU Governing Board, I bring a deep understanding of our organization's values, vision, and goals. We must ensure that all students at HSIs continue to receive a high-quality education and access to opportunities on their path to entering the nation's workforce."
