Chairman Steil, Chairman Moolenaar Announce End of China Daily Circulation in House Offices

WASHINGTON - Today, Committee on House Administration Chairman Bryan Steil (WI-01) and House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party Chairman John Moolenaar (MI-02) released a statement following the halting of circulation of China Daily, a Chinese Communist Party-owned newspaper, to House Office Buildings by National News.

"We are pleased to announce that China Daily will no longer be circulated by National News to House offices. We took action to directly block the Chinese Communist Party from using the halls of the People's House to spread its propaganda. We appreciate National News's swift cooperation on this important issue."

Background:

National News, a longtime newspaper distributor in Washington, DC and on the Hill, is the sole distributor of newspapers on the Hill. For many years, National News distributed China Daily, along with all other major publications, to all Congressional offices unless they opted out. After Members raised frustrations with the publication to the Committee on House Administration, the Committee took action to work with National News to find a resolution to this. At this time, National News is working to wind down and cease distribution of China Daily in Congress, ending the efforts of a Chinese propaganda campaign on Capitol Hill.
