Fuel tax relief extended(link is external)

The Prime Minister has announced the extension of fuel relief measures.

Cuts to the fuel excise duty rate on petrol and diesel will continue with a 16 cents per litre reduction from 1 July to 2 August 2026.

Relief for transport and freight operators will also be extended, with the heavy vehicle road user charge also reduced by 16 cents a litre from 1 July to 2 August 2026.

While full recovery from global conflicts will take some time, Australia's fuel outlook remains strong. Extended relief will support Australians will a graduated return to normal settings. Continued cuts will help to keep prices lower at the pump and limit flow on price increases for groceries and other goods.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) is continuing to monitor fuel prices to help ensure that the lower excise rate is fully passed on at the bowser, backed by stronger penalties and additional enforcement resourcing.
