Klobuchar attended the Supreme Court arguments in this case
WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) released the following statement following the Supreme Court's decision to strike down the administration's across-the-board tariffs.
"Today, the Supreme Court finally affirmed what I have been saying for a year: President Trump's reckless tariffs - which are costing families, farmers, and small businesses - are illegal," said Klobuchar. "I attended the oral arguments and predicted this outcome based on the Justices' pointed questions of the administration."
"To strengthen our economy, we must provide our small business owners and farmers with more certainty - not trade wars that raise prices for consumers and shut out American businesses from export markets. With today's decision, it is clear that Congress - not the president - has the power to impose tariffs. We must reassert this authority and stand up for American workers, businesses, and consumers."
Senator Klobuchar has been a vocal opponent of the President's tariffs and attended the Supreme Court's oral arguments for this case in November.
This month, the House voted to repeal President Trump's International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) tariffs on Canada.
In October, Klobuchar's legislation to reverse tariffs on Canada passed the Senate for the second time, with a bipartisan vote of 50-46. In 2024, Canada was Minnesota's largest trading partner - exporting $7.5 billion in goods to Canada - accounting for 28 percent of the state's exports.
