City to Host Community Input Sessions for Police Chief Search

Greensboro Police Chief John Thompson announced his plans to retire in February 2026, after 23 years of service to the City.

The City has contracted with executive search firm Developmental Associates.

The agency will seek input from police department employees and the community, while conducting a national search for the most qualified candidates.

Community input sessions will be hosted to collect resident feedback on the qualities they prefer in the next Chief of Police.

The meetings are scheduled to take place on the following days:

Wednesday, November 19, from 6 pm to 8 pm at Craft Recreation Center, located at 3911 Yanceyville St.

Thursday, November 20, from 6 pm to 8 pm at Peeler Recreation Center, located at 1300 Sykes Ave.

Friday, November 21, from 12 pm to 2 pm at Lindley Recreation Center, located at 2907 Springwood Dr.

Additionally, input sessions with key staff are taking place, and the City will host another round of community meetings in December.
