MPSC postpones today’s public hearing in Detroit because of ongoing severe weather

The Michigan Public Service Commission has postponed a planned public hearing workshop on energy affordability today, Sept. 3, in Detroit because ongoing severe weather in southeast Michigan.

The MPSC will reschedule the workshop for a later date. Additional details will be announced shortly.

Severe storms with winds up to 70 mph overnight left more than 100,000 customers of DTE Electric Co. without power throughout metro Detroit.

Northern swaths of the City of Detroit and areas of southern Oakland County were particularly hard hit by the weather. Additional severe storm warnings were issued in the weather forecast for metro Detroit today.

"Michiganders are rightfully frustrated by a power grid that loses power much too often and restoration that takes much too long," MPSC Chair Dan Scripps said. "While the MPSC has taken multiple steps in recent years to improve reliability for Michigan's electricity customers, today's events underscore how much more work there is still to do."
