KANSAS CITY, KS - As of 3PM this afternoon, more than 70% of the 134 neighborhood routes have been plowed with just 38 remaining. All secondary and "hot" routes have been completed. Multiple Unified Government departments are working together to catch up on snow removal following dangerous conditions last night. With the historic volume of snow and ice, however, it's still pretty rough out there. For tips on snow removal, visit wycokck.org/snow
Our police and fire departments have responded to hundreds of calls since the beginning of the storm, including more than 75 vehicle crashes. If you have to go out, please drive safely. Our teams have been transporting unhoused residents to warming shelters to minimize exposure and the Wyandotte County Sheriff reports all operations are running smoothly. The KCK cold weather shelter will be open again this evening.
All Unified Government offices will reopen to the public on Wednesday, January 8 at 8AM. Our 3-1-1 call center is available to community members 24/7 to report service issues.
If you have a hydrant in your neighborhood, the Kansas City Kansas Fire Department would greatly appreciate your assistance in digging it out! We have crews going around but there are a lot of hydrants to cover!
