East Hartford, CT - Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01), a member of the House Trade Subcommittee, called for a full House vote on his bill to require Congressional approval before tariffs can be imposed on consumers, after the President announced plans for new tariffson prescription drugs, trucks, and furniture.
In April, Larson introduced a billwith Rep. Linda Sanchez (CA-38) and every Democrat on the Trade Subcommittee to require Congress to vote before these tariffs could go into effect. He is also a cosponsor of the Health Care Affordability Actto extend expiring Affordable Care Act tax credits that help 20 million Americans afford their premiums.
According to the Yale Budget Lab, President Trump's tariffs, even before yesterday's new announcement, will cost the average familyat least $2,300 per year.
"Millions of Americans are already facing premium hikes of hundreds if not thousands thanks to Republican inaction. said Larson. "Now, the President is doubling down on his health care crisis, hiking the cost of prescription drugs and increasing prices on a new slew of goods ahead of the holiday season with yet another round of tariffs. Democrats have a bill to end this tax increase on American consumers now. If my Republican colleagues are serious about lowering costs for families, they will call a vote."
