Defence Secretary Inspects Disaster Response Operations and Relief Distribution Facilities

Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd) undertook an inspection visit today (07 December) to the Call Center and National Emergency Operation Center of the Disaster Management Center (DMC) to review the ongoing coordination of national disaster response activities.

During the visit, the Defence Secretary observed the operational functions of both facilities, engaged with the staff on duty, inquired into existing challenges, and appreciated their dedicated service in managing emergency communication and response mechanisms during the current relief operations. Defence Secretary further encouraged the teams to continue their duties with commitment and efficiency in support of the national effort.

Following the visit to the DMC, the Defence Secretary proceeded to the Orugodawatta Warehouse Complex operated by the National Disaster Relief Services Centre (NDRSC). Defence Secretary conducted an observation tour of the storage and distribution process of relief items, reviewing the logistics arrangements and the dispatch of essential supplies to affected areas.

Emphasizing the importance of fair and accountable relief management, the Defence Secretary instructed officials to ensure that all distribution activities are carried out transparently and effectively, enabling timely delivery of assistance to communities in need.

Defence Secretary also inspected the welfare arrangements of tri services personnel presently deployed at the facility, acknowledged their contribution to relief efforts, and encouraged them to continue their service with dedication.
