Senator Marshall Marks Day 3 of 4 Corners 50 Counties Tour Across South West Kansas

SW Kansas - Yesterday, U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. (R-Kansas), continued traveling across southwest Kansas, meeting directly with farmers, manufacturers, law enforcement, health care providers, and community leaders to discuss the priorities driving rural communities.

From biofuels and water conservation to rural jobs, public safety, and farmer mental health, Senator Marshall focused on policies that strengthen Kansas families and keep southwest Kansas growing.

At the end of the day, Senator Marshall and his team drove to Ashland once they heard the town was under evacuation due to wildfires. The Senator delivered water to local first responders and thanked them for the work they're doing to save their community.

International Pancake Day - Seward County

Senator Marshall kicked off the morning in Liberal, Kansas, to join the community in celebrating the 77th Annual International Pancake Day. Liberal is home of the famous 415-yard pancake race between women of Liberal and Olney, England - a tradition dating back to 1445.

The weeklong celebration includes a parade, church service, scavenger hunts, flapjack-eating contests, and an international video call between the two cities.

Cimarron National Grassland - Morton County

Senator Marshall toured a portion of the 108,175-acre Cimarron National Grassland, the largest public land area in Kansas. The grassland includes the Santa Fe Trail, Point of Rocks, and vital prairie ecosystems.

The visit focused on wildfire prevention, conservation, and protecting land for future generations. In March 2025, Senator Marshall chaired a hearing on the "Fix Our Forests Act," which seeks to reduce wildfires and strengthen federal land management.

Flora Foods - Stevens County

In Hugoton, Senator Marshall toured Flora Foods' newly acquired facility. The company is investing around $90 million and adding 100 new jobs. The plant will produce cream and cream cheese products for North and South America, while its existing New Century, Kan., facility remains the U.S. hub for butters and spreads.

Marshall also highlighted the Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act, signed into law in January, which allows schools to serve whole and reduced-fat milk while supporting healthy eating programs.

GMD 3 Water Conservation Projects - Stanton County

Senator Marshall met with producers and board members to discuss irrigation efficiency improvements supported by USDA Conservation Innovation Grant funds. Upgraded irrigation nozzles are helping conserve water drawn from the Ogallala Aquifer.

He also discussed federal efforts to improve water infrastructure and support farmers through the USDA's conservation programs.

Haskell County Sheriff's Department - Haskell County

Senator Marshall met with Haskell County Sheriff Troy Briggs to discuss local collaboration with federal immigration authorities. Haskell County has applied to participate in the 287(g) program with ICE, which will allow local officers to assist in transferring illegal aliens in custody. State-wide, this partnership has helped remove over 200 individuals with violent criminal records from Kansas communities, strengthening public safety through coordinated local and federal law enforcement efforts.

Compass Behavioral Health - Gray County

Lastly, Senator Marshall met with leaders at Compass Behavioral Health to discuss expanding mental health awareness and services for farmers and ranchers - something he has long championed through programs like the Farm and Ranch Stress Assistance Network and funding for Kansas Ag Stress Resources.

Senator Marshall has led the charge on removing the stigma around mental health and improving access to mental health resources for farmers, ranchers, and their families.
