Draft Nature-Based Adaptation Project Feasibility Study Available for Public Comment

June 10, 2025… San Clemente, California…. The draft Nature-Based Adaptation Project Feasibility Study is available for public review and comment through July 13, 2025 at www.san-clemente.org/sand. The purpose of the Draft Feasibility Study is to identify one or more potential nature-based features, using multi-purpose reef design concepts, that could be developed in the City as a companion strategy to retain beach sand added to the shoreline. The study is intended to identify designs that reduce erosion by stabilizing City beaches using techniques that replicate natural features.

Sand retention is a companion shoreline management strategy the City is contemplating as a way to enhance the performance, longevity, and cost effectiveness of beach sand replenishment projects such as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) project, Sand Compatibility and Opportunistic Use Program (SCOUP) opportunistic projects, the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) regional beach sand project and other sand projects currently in development.
