More than 100 workers at Crane Building Services and Utilities (BS&U) in Hitchin have started two weeks of strike action in a row over pay.

Strikes will continue until Friday 22 May inclusive and stop manufacturing on the site.

The workers, who are represented by GMB Union, voted 84 per cent in favour of strike action following frustrations around an unsatisfactory pay offer that has left them feeling undervalued.

This vote marks the second time in two years that Crane BS&U workers have had to take industrial action to secure a decent pay award that matches their skills and experience.

Andre Marques, GMB Regional Organiser, said:

"This strike action shows the strength of feeling among the workers at Crane BS&U.

"They are not prepared to accept less than they are worth.

"We remain open to meaningful dialogue to resolve this dispute and secure a fair uplift for our members."
