On February 19, Carrickfergus Academy held a series of Chinese New Year celebrations. Consul General Li Nan was invited to attend and make a speech. Principal Amanda Irvine, Vice Principals Colin Patterson and Emma Beckett, and nearly 200 faculty and students participated.
Mr. Li extended New Year's greetings to the teachers and students, introduced the Chinese zodiac and Spring Festival culture in a simple and easy-to-understand way, and conducted a Chinese culture knowledge quiz with students.
The atmosphere of the events was lively. Teachers from the Confucius Institute at Ulster University performed Peking Opera, face-changing, and Guzheng (a traditional Chinese zither). Local students participated in Chinese cultural experience activities such as shuttlecock kicking, handkerchief twirling, and popcorn-picking competitions with chopsticks.
