Join Us at Homme-Adams Park for National Public Lands Day
Mark your calendar for Sunday, Feb. 1, and celebrate National Public Lands Day with the City of Palm Desert and Friends of the Desert Mountains! The event kicks off at 8 a.m. at Homme-Adams Park (72500 Thrush Road) and promises a morning of community, conservation, and connection with our stunning desert landscape.
The day begins with a special park bench dedication honoring the late Buford Crites, a former Palm Desert councilmember and tireless advocate for our trails, parks, and open spaces. Following the dedication, volunteers will roll up their sleeves for a trail cleanup and park beautification, including tasks such as removing dead plants, trimming bushes and trees, hauling debris, and light grading.
National Public Lands Day is the nation's largest single-day volunteer event dedicated to public lands. It's a chance to protect and preserve the natural spaces that make our communities dynamic and beautiful. Here in the Coachella Valley, our desert ecosystem is fragile and unique, supporting a variety of native plants and wildlife that depend on our stewardship.
By volunteering at Homme-Adams Park, participants not only improve public spaces but also learn how small, thoughtful actions like trail maintenance, habitat restoration, and litter removal help sustain these precious lands for future generations. National Public Lands Day reminds us that caring for our environment is a shared responsibility and a way to connect with both nature and our neighbors.
Local organizations and community partners will have vendor booths, and all volunteers can enjoy a free lunch to celebrate the morning's accomplishments. This is a perfect opportunity to give back, enjoy the outdoors, and make a tangible impact on our community. Sign up by using this link, or head to DesertMountains.org to join the effort.
Together, we can keep our parks and trails healthy, beautiful, and thriving for years to come!
