At the drop-off sites, we accept many things, including:

If you don't know if you can take an item to a drop-off site, look it up in our online Recyclopedia.

Or you can contact the Streets Division for advice.

Finding the Quann-Olin Drop-Off Site Entrance

The Quann-Olin drop-off site is in a new location with a new entrance.

You enter the site by first turning onto Quann-Olin Parkway from Olin Avenue.

There will be signs to help you get to the location when it opens on April 11, 2026.

On the Streets Division website, we have a map to help you find the entrance.

Do I need to pay to drop off items?

Most items are free.

However, a specific list of large items and appliances have a charge that only applies to certain residents.

For a list of these specific items with a charge, visit our website.

Who pays the recycling charge for these specific items?

If the City of Madison collects your recycling, you do not need to pay any extra charges for those specific items.

If the City does not collect your recycling, you will need to pay a recycling charge for these certain items.

The pay system is structured this way because when the Streets Division collects your recycling, you pay the monthly Resource Recovery Special Charge (RRSC) on your municipal services bill. The costs to the special items with a charge are covered by the RRSC. If you do not pay the RRSC, then you need to pay for the items.

If the Recycling Charge for Your Items Applies to You, Purchase the Fee Sticker Before Dropping Off Items

If you are a Madison resident who needs to pay a fee for certain times, you can purchase the sticker online in advance through the large item work order system.

You can also purchase the sticker in person at Streets Division offices, or over the phone. The Streets Division offices are located at 1501 W. Badger Rd and 4602 Sycamore Ave. They are open 7:30am to 4:00pm Monday to Friday.

You can call us at 608-246-4532 or 608-266-4681 to make the purchase over the phone. The phone lines are staffed from 7:30am to 4:00pm Monday to Friday.

You could also mail us a check. Make checks payable to City Treasurer. Include a note with your check explaining what you are purchasing. Mail the check and the note to the following address:

City of Madison Streets Division

1501 W. Badger Rd

Madison, WI 53713

You Can't Buy a Fee Sticker from Drop-off Site Workers

Staff working in the drop-off sites can't sell you a sticker if you need one.

If you are required to pay a fee and you are dropping off an item that requires one, like a microwave, you need to purchase the recycling fee sticker before arriving at the drop-off site.
