State v. Hannah Hackemeyer

Decatur, Ga.- DeKalb County District Attorney Sherry Boston announces a conviction by guilty plea in the case against a then 18-year-old woman charged in a single car crash that killed one passenger and injured another in the Oak Grove community.

During a hearing today, Hannah Hackemeyer, now 20 years old, pleaded guilty to charges of Homicide by Vehicle in the First Degree, Serious Injury by Vehicle, Reckless Driving and Possession of an Open Container of Alcoholic Beverage in Passenger Area in connection with the wreck on February 24, 2024.

DeKalb County Superior Court Judge LaTisha Dear Jackson, who presided over the plea hearing, accepted Defendant Hackemeyer's guilty plea and sentenced her to 10 years to serve 2 years on house arrest. As special conditions of her sentence, Defendant Hackemeyer must wear an ankle monitor, cannot operate a motor vehicle, must not consume or possess alcohol and drugs, must submit to random drug and alcohol screenings, must complete 240 hours of community service, and must participate in two MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) Victim Impact Panels.

Judge Dear Jackson granted Defendant Hackemeyer's request to be sentenced under the First Offender Act, which means if she successfully completes her sentence, the record of her conviction will be sealed.
