DMACC is celebrating national recognition from Newsweekas one of the top online colleges in the country.
DMACC Onlineranked 11thout of 250 higher education institutions in the country offering online programs.
Newsweekpartnered with Statista for its fifth edition of the ranking, which was built from the findings of an online survey of 10,000 U.S. citizens who have used online learning services. Participants rated their experiences based on organization, support, price, reputation, success, and practical relevance, wrote Newsweek Editor-in-Chief Jennifer H. Cunningham.
More than 10,000 students learn through DMACC Online. In fact, more students take online classes than any other format of course delivery at DMACC.
And 96% report a positive or extremely positive perception of DMACC after taking their first online class, according to a survey of students enrolled in DMACC Online this past summer.
With such strong student satisfaction and growing enrollment, the Newsweek recognition reinforces what Joel Lundstrom, DMACC Executive Dean of Distance Learning, sees every day - that DMACC Online is popular among students because of the quality of education, not just because it's accessible and affordable.
"We often promote the low cost of attendance and the expansion of our online program offerings, but more importantly, we have people from across the college working to ensure students have incredible learning experiences. Students are finding engaged faculty and a supportive team dedicated to their success," Lundstrom said.
DMACC Online classes are specifically designed to allow flexibility for students while maintaining the faculty-student relationship and teaching core competences for each class.
That's reflected in the testimonials, such as this feedback from a student who participated in the survey earlier this year:
"I initially expected the online format to feel more independent and disconnected, but the instructors were very present, and there were clear weekly deadlines, interactive discussions, and prompt feedback...I felt more supported than I expected in a virtual learning environment."
DMACC's online courses are carefully designed by knowledgeable faculty (more than 475 instructors are teaching this fall) with the assistance of instructional designers and "excellent technology to make the learning experience one to remember," said Joe Raineri, Director of Distance Learning & Technology.
"Our goal is to educate and support all students no matter how they attend, and this award proves that our formula for online classes has earned us an 'A'," Raineri said.
The impact of that approach shows best in the voices of the students themselves:
"DMACC's online format has made it so easy for me to access all of my textbooks and assignments, which is amazing! This has made it easier for me to set goals about being active in the class and becoming more educated and productive." - Edna Kova
"DMACC truly gave me the most positive expereience (so good I considered coming back for the semester). The advisors were extremely helpful and in such a timely manner. Same goes for the professors and their courses as well. I never expected having such a good experience, but it was much better than anything in the past." - Selma Sabic
"Although taking a summer class doesn't look very glamorous from the outside, it is a very useful and straightforward process. I was able to balance a 40-hour a week job, exercise, and hanging out with friends, along with a DMACC summer course. If you're debating taking a class during the summer, take it. It'll be worth it." - Camden Parker
"I just love how the course is evaluated. To me, it fostered real learning and growth. I didn't have to worry about strategizing exam success. Instead, I focused on deep diving and enjoying the course material." - Arjit Ghosh
