City of Tuscaloosa Holds Ribbon Cutting for Bowers Park Pickleball Courts

The City of Tuscaloosa held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Bowers Park Pickleball Courts on Monday, March 23 at 11 a.m.

Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox, Councilor John Faile and Tuscaloosa Park and Recreation Authority Executive Director Brian Davis spoke during the ceremony.

"I grew up in Idlewood, not far from here, and rode bikes to Bowers with my friends all the time as a kid," Mayor Walt Maddox said. "It's memories like those that help drive our investments in quality of place for the next generations, and for today's residents of all ages."

The new Bowers Park Pickleball Courts feature 19 new courts, a new outdoor restroom and updated lighting and security cameras.

"In addition to the pickleball courts, I am pleased to share that a monument for J Oviatt Bowers has been re-added to the park," said Councilor John Faile. "We have accomplished a lot here, but we are just getting started."

"I am thrilled at the enthusiasm of our community's pickleball players," Tuscaloosa Park and Recreation Authority Executive Director Brian Davis said. "Our pickleball courts are almost always full and it brings me joy that our community and visitors are able to enjoy these amenities"

Construction for the Elevate Tuscaloosa project began in 2025.
