Savannah Bananas hit home run at Kinnick Stadium

Tuesday, July 7, 2026

Over the Fourth of July weekend, the Savannah Bananas rolled into town for two unforgettable sold-out Banana Ball games, transforming Kinnick Stadium into a baseball field unlike anything fans had ever seen. With dancing players, choreographed entrances, and nonstop entertainment, the event was about much more than baseball-it was a full-scale party with bats and gloves.

Friday night brought an unexpected twist when thunderstorms and lightning delayed the game by about two and a half hours. Rather than dampening spirits, the delay became part of the story. Thousands of fans stuck it out, eager to see baseball on the gridiron.

The Bananas, the Firefighters, and fans filling the stadium also took part in the Iowa Wave to patients watching from the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital.

The games also featured many opportunities for fan participation, and the Bananas were joined on the diamond by Iowa Hawkeye sports icons former quarterback Brad Banks, tight end Dallas Clark, and three-time NCAA wrestling champion and Olympic silver medalist Spencer Lee.

The event marked another milestone for Kinnick Stadium, which in the past has hosted a men's wrestling meet and a women's basketball game.

These photos show all the fun, and if you didn't make it to Kinnick, you can watch the games on YouTube: Game 1 and Game 2.
