Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun’s Regular Press Conference on January 22, 2026

At the invitation of Premier of the State Council Li Qiang, Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo will pay an official visit to China from January 25 to 28.

CCTV: China just released the information on the official visit of the Finnish Prime Minister Orpo to China. Could you give further information on the program of this visit? What expectations does China have on this visit?

Guo Jiakun: During Prime Minister Orpo's visit to China, President Xi Jinping will meet with him, and Premier Li Qiang and Chairman Zhao Leji of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress will hold talks and meet with him respectively. They will have an in-depth exchange of views on bilateral relations and issues of mutual interests.

Finland is one of the earliest Western countries to recognize and establish diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China. In recent years, under the guidance of the two heads of state, the China-Finland future-oriented new-type cooperative partnership continues to be deepened, and practical cooperation across the aboard has been continually advanced. China attaches great importance to the development of China-Finland relations, and stands ready to work with Finland to have closer high-level exchanges, strengthen political mutual trust, enhance economic and trade cooperation, promote people-to-people and cultural exchanges, step up mutual understanding and coordination on multilateral affairs, and jointly bring the China-Finland relationship to new heights.

AFP: NATO said yesterday that its Secretary General Mark Rutte had talks with Donald Trump on security in the Arctic. A spokesperson said that there will be negotiations between Denmark, Greenland and the United States "aimed at ensuring that Russia and China never gain a foothold economically or militarily in Greenland." How does China view this and recent developments regarding Greenland?

Guo Jiakun: China always advocates handling state-to-state relations in accordance with the purposes and principles of the UN Charter. The so-called "China threat" is groundless. China opposes fabricating baseless narratives and using China as a pretext for seeking selfish gains.

Rudaw Media Network: Qutaiba Idlbi, an official from the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated: "There have been no official requests from the Chinese government to the Syrian government regarding the Uyghur fighters to return them back to China." They believe if China has such a request, they will reply accordingly. What's your comment on that?

Guo Jiakun: The Eastern Turkistan Islamic Movement (ETIM) is a terrorist organization designated by China in accordance with the law and listed by the UN Security Council. Syria commits itself to not allowing any entity to use the Syrian territory to engage in activities that undermine China's security, sovereignty, and interests.

Hubei Media Group: It's reported that Pakistani police said yesterday the massive fire that ripped through a shopping mall on January 17 in Karachi, the capital of the province of Sindh in southern Pakistan, has so far killed 60 people. What's China's comment?

Guo Jiakun: China noted the tragic fire and expresses deep condolences to the lives lost and heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved families and the injured. We wish the injured a speedy recovery.

NHK: The consul general position in Chongqing remains unfilled for more than a month since the Japanese consul general left the city last month. Some say that China has not yet allowed Japan to send a new consul general. Can I have your comment on that?

Guo Jiakun: China is handling relevant matter in accordance with procedures.

Reuters: At Davos last night, Trump said China made lots of wind turbines but he had not "been able to find any wind farms in China." He also said China has been selling wind turbines to "stupid" people. Does the Foreign Ministry have any comment?

Guo Jiakun: China has developed the world's most complete policy system on reducing carbon emissions, as well as the world's largest renewable energy system, and actively shares its achievements in green development. China's installed capacity of wind power has ranked the 1st in the world for 15 consecutive years. Up till the end of November, 2025, China's installed capacity of wind power has exceeded 600 million kw. During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, the wind power and photovoltaic products China exported helped reduce around 4.1 billion tonnes of carbon emission in other countries in total. China's efforts in combating climate change and advancing the global development and application of renewable energy are widely recognized. As a responsible major developing country, China stands ready to work with all sides to continue to promote global green and low-carbon transition, and jointly build a clean and beautiful world.

China Daily: China recently criticized the disinformation and smear campaign against China by a spokesperson of the Philippine Coast Guard. The Department of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines yesterday in a statement affirmed its support for publicly elected officials and government institutions performing their lawful duties in defense of Philippine sovereignty, sovereign rights, and jurisdiction. It also reiterated that differences between States are best addressed through established diplomatic channels rather than public exchanges. Can I have your comment on that?

Guo Jiakun: Earlier this week, we've stated China's serious position on the remarks by this "spokesperson" of the Philippine Coast Guard. Head of Chinese MFA's Department of Asian Affairs summoned Philippine Ambassador to China this morning to once again lodge serious protest.

It must be stressed that the Philippine side has long turned a blind eye to its Coast Guard "spokesperson" making inflammatory, confrontational, misleading and baseless remarks against China on maritime issues. China does not accept that. Time for the Philippine side to undo the negative impact as soon as possible and stop tolerating the smear campaign and provocations, lest they disrupt normal diplomatic communication or further harm bilateral relations.

AFP: Donald Trump is expected to hold a signing ceremony in Davos today for his Board of Peace. A senior Trump administration official said yesterday that about 35 of 50 world leaders have accepted invitations to join. How does China view this Board of Peace and is it considering joining?

Guo Jiakun: We have answered questions regarding the Board of Peace and have nothing to add at the moment.

Reuters: Also at Davos, President Trump said that he is working to make sure that America remains the crypto capital of the world. He said that China "wanted that market" and he said that "we have to make it so that China doesn't get the hold of it." Does the Foreign Ministry have any comment on his remarks?

Guo Jiakun: China actively involves itself in multilateral and bilateral monetary and financial cooperation, global macro policy coordination and international financial rulemaking. For anything specific, I'd refer you to competent authorities.

AFP: French company Lactalis announced a major recall of infant formula in several countries including China. This follows similar recalls by Nestle this month. French authorities say that they have linked these recalls to a single Chinese supplier, which they have not named. Does the Foreign Ministry have any more information or comment on the situation?

Guo Jiakun: I'm not familiar with that. The Chinese government attaches high importance to food safety and will continue taking effective measures to protect the legitimate rights and interests of consumers.
