Mid-March 2026 Strong Wind Event Affecting Cattaraugus County (and Beyond)
You may be aware that the strong winds over the past few days have caused several electrical outages. Electric has gone on and off in some areas more than once. Those electrical outages continue today as trees and lines are still coming down, even into this morning and coming afternoon. Power companies have been prepared for this event and have released information regarding their plans and response:
National Grid Preparing for Strong Winds to Impact Upstate New York Early This Week
NYSEG and RG&E Prepared for Strong Storm System Moving Across New York
When you lose electric at your home (or business), it is important that you call your power company's outage phone number to report that event. If there is an emergency or you see a downed power line, call 911 immediately.
Report a National Grid outage by calling 1-800-867-5222.
Report a NYSEG outage by calling 1-800-572-1131.

Weather Update(s) Related to the Current Power Outages
The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued a Wind Advisory that remains in effect for Cattaraugus, Allegany, Livingston, Ontario, Wayne, [Northern areas of] Cayuga, and Oswego counties through 8 PM this evening, March 16, 2026.
