Congressman Shri Thanedar Praises Secretary Noem's Firing, Demands Further Accountability from the Department of Homeland Security

Washington, D.C. - Congressman Shri Thanedar, the Top Democrat on Homeland Security's Oversight, Investigations, and Accountability Subcommittee, issued the following statement on President Trump's firing of Kristi Noem.

"Just a few months ago, I demanded that Secretary Kristi Noem resign for her atrocious conduct as the Secretary of Homeland Security. Her repeated lies and defiance of court orders were so egregious that I supported articles of impeachment against her. Today, I am pleased to hear that she has been fired from her position.

Her tenure as Secretary of Homeland Security was defined by cruelty, oppression, and blatant disregard for the rule of law and the Constitution. From illegally raiding workplaces, churches, and homes to using excessive violence against the American people, ultimately leading to the murder of Renee Nicole Good, a mother of three, and Alex Pretti, an ICU nurse for the VA, her tenure will go down as one of the most shameful chapters in American history.

Ms. Noem should know that just because she has been fired, she will not escape accountability. She will be held responsible for the atrocities ICE committed under her direction and her day of reckoning is coming.

And while I am glad that she is no longer DHS's Secretary, the main source of the problems that have marred the Department is the President of the United States, Donald Trump. Markwayne Mullin has been announced as Noem's replacement, but regardless of whoever is Secretary of Homeland Security, I remain committed to standing up against any and all actions by this administration to abuse the powers of the Department of Homeland Security and weaponize it against our neighbors."
