NextNav Reiterates Need for Urgent Commission Action in Reply Comments to FCC PNT Notice of Inquiry

On May 13, 2025, NextNav filed reply comments with the Federal Communications Commission in its Notice of Inquiry promoting the development of positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) technologies and solutions. NextNav reiterated its call for the Commission to "act quickly to issue a notice of proposed rulemaking that eliminates the regulatory barriers to NextGen PNT." NextNav's reply comments can be found here.

Along with its comments, NextNav released the following statement from CEO Mariam Sorond:

"The record before the FCC clearly demonstrates that building a complement and backup to GPS is an urgent national security and public safety priority. NextNav offers a near-term, market-driven solution to meet this need. While some opponents rely on unsupported rhetoric to preserve the status quo, theCommission should not be swayed by flawed technical analysis or entrenched resistance that would delay meaningful progress toward advancing a system of systems approach to PNT resiliency. We urge the FCC to seize this opportunity and initiate a rulemaking to enable 5G-based 3D PNT in the lower 900 MHz band."
