CLA, Ag Partners Call for Strong U.S. Presence in FAO and CODEX Leadership

CLA, Ag Partners Call for Strong U.S. Presence in FAO and CODEX Leadership

Apr 24
Written By Michael Leary

CLA, and 54 other agricultural and food organizations, sent a letter on April 24 to Secretaries Rubio, Rollins, and Kennedy, Administrator Zeldin, and Ambassador Greer. The letter advocated for continued U.S. membership in the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations (UN) and leadership within the Codex Alimentarius Commission (Codex) and the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC). These efforts help prevent barriers to trade, protect American consumers, and safeguard the strength of U.S. agri-food supply chains.

The letter also encourages the full resourcing of the U.S. Mission to the UN Agencies in Rome, including promptly filling the Minister-Counselor for Agriculture position. CLA supports UN reform efforts that promote fairness, evidence-based policymaking, and protect U.S. interests, and we welcome further dialogue with the administration.
