Today, we're back with our latest installment of Market Movers to reveal which products are making moves in the Payrollsoftware category. In case you're new here, Market Movers is a series from G2 Data Solutionswhere we spotlight the top three trending products in a trending category, all based on G2 data.
Payroll transparency is already on the risein 2026, particularly in European nations, where new pay regulations are aligning closer to what we see in the U.S. The new laws will require European employers to list salary ranges in job postings, similar to the way many of their U.S. counterparts communicate compensation. While there are currently no federal laws mandating pay transparency in the U.S., 16 states have enacted their own, and 10 others have introduced bills to follow suit, according to Paycor.
So, how is this shift impacting payroll products and services?
On G2, the Payroll category sits within the broader HR Softwaremarket. Payroll software allows companies to manage and streamline payroll processes and ensure employees are paid timely and accurately. These systems help HR departments automate payroll processes and support accounting teams with accurate bookkeeping. In total, there are 611 listings in the Payroll category on G2 today.
When we examined the Payroll category on G2, we noticed that it has received more reviews in the past year than any other category - over 30,000, to be exact. That represents a 90% increase from the previous year!
Inia Debnath, G2's Market Research Analyst covering the Payroll software category, noted:
"As pay transparency expands globally, payroll platforms are expected to deliver greater accuracy, visibility, and compliance at scale. Buyers are gravitating toward solutions that can adapt quickly to regulatory change, integrate seamlessly with broader HR systems, and provide real-time insights into compensation and workforce costs. This shift is driving increased engagement and faster innovation across the payroll software market."
To determine the top Market Movers in a software category, we identify the top three products from vendors with less than 2,500 employees according to the following set of key criteria (taking into account their percent change from the previous year):
Because we aim to highlight up-and-coming players in a particular space, we are only including products from companies with fewer than 2,500 employees. I'd also like to note that, in uncovering our Market Movers, we are considering all products within this specific category, not just those whose main category is Payroll Software.
