CMA CGM Sorbonne: Malta Freeport Successfully Handles 23,112-TEU LNG-Powered Vessel

Another major containership has been successfully handled at Malta Freeport Terminals, with the call of the 23,112-TEU CMA CGM Sorbonne on the MEX service.

Five quay cranes were deployed during the operation, discharging 3,493 units (5,742 TEUs) and loading 984 units (1,870 TEUs) - underlining the Terminal's capability to handle vessels of this scale safely and efficiently.

With an overall length of 400 metres, #CMACGM Sorbonne is among the largest container vessels in the CMA CGM fleet and forms part of the pioneering series of nine 23,000-TEU LNG-powered vessels. Compared with conventional fuels, LNG significantly reduces emissions of sulphur dioxide, fine particulate matter and nitrogen oxides.

The successful handling of vessels of this size reflects the combination of #MaltaFreeportTerminals' modern infrastructure, advanced equipment and the expertise of our employees.

Well done to all the teams involved in the safe and efficient handling of CMA CGM Sorbonne.
