Macomb County named 8th in the nation for best technology practices

Macomb County has been recognized as one of the top digital counties in the nation, earning the eighth spot in the National Association of Counties (NACo) 2025 Digital Counties Survey in the 500,000-999,999 population category. Macomb is also the highest-ranked county in the state of Michigan, a testament to its commitment to innovation, efficiency and resident-focused digital services.

The honor is bestowed by the Center for Digital Government (CDG) and the National Association of Counties (NACo), which recently released the results of the 23rd Annual Digital Counties Survey. The annual survey, conducted by NACo in partnership with the Center for Digital Government, recognizes counties that deploy technology to strengthen cybersecurity, enhance transparency, improve services and promote resident engagement.

"This is a proud moment for Macomb County," said Mark A. Hackel, Macomb County Executive.
"Our top-ten national ranking and first in Michigan, demonstrates our commitment to using technology to better serve residents, support businesses and improve how we operate as a government. This recognition is a reflection of the talent and dedication of our IT team and county departments working together to deliver a smarter, more responsive government."

From expanding cloud-based services and increasing mobile access for residents to strengthening cybersecurity infrastructure and streamlining internal operations, Macomb County's digital strategy has prioritized both innovation and accessibility.

"It is an honor to be recognized on this platform, where the collaboration of our dedicated and talented IT department, working in partnership with our other departments, has earned national attention for our expanding technology services," said Sandy Wilson, deputy director, Macomb County IT. "We're focused on continuously pursuing automation to improve constituent experience and this award validates those efforts."
