Over a Hundred House Democrats Demand Congress Stay in Session to Confront AI Crisis

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, 107 House Democrats demanded Speaker Mike Johnson cancel the upcoming recess to vote on legislation creating AI safeguards. Representatives Sam Liccardo (CA-16), George Whitesides (CA-27) Ted Lieu (CA-36), and Lori Trahan (MA-03) led the letter and garnered support from colleagues in every corner of the country.

"While we're seeing this firestorm of concern throughout the country around AI safety, we've got Speaker Johnson fiddling, and at least Nero had the decency to stay in town while Rome burned," said Liccardo. "Speaker Mike Johnson is shutting down Congress for seven weeks. The American people need action, not vacation."
