Prepare for Winter King Tides

Very high seasonal tides, called "king tides", and winter storms can cause flooding in in Downtown Olympia and along Budd Inlet shorelines.

Flooding does not happen every time there is a high tide. But if the weather conditions are right, flood waters can rise 18 inches or more above street level and may damage property and vehicles.

Now is the time to prepare for king tides and winter storm season. If you live, work, or play in downtown Olympia, take these steps to stay informed:
  1. Sign up for Budd Inlet Flood Advisory alerts at tcalerts.org
  1. Follow the City on social media channels to stay informed about potential flooding and real-time updates.
Visit our downtown flooding webpage for more information on what to do before and during a flood event.
