Illinois Native Selected to Join NASA

Illinois House Minority Leader Tony McCombie is proud to announce that Savanna, Illinois native Cameron Jones was unveiled by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) as a member of the space agency's ten-member Class of 2025 astronaut candidates.

Major Jones is a U.S. Air Force combat veteran and test pilot (Edwards Air Force Base; Nellis Air Force Base) with over 1,600 hours of high-performance flying time. He will now begin a grueling two-year program of spaceflight training. Qualified trainees will be eligible for selection to future NASA spaceflight missions, including the Artemis program for potential U.S. return missions to the Moon.
