Maritime Unit and Internal Audit train Somali Maritime Stakeholders on Search And Rescue Quality Management

From 11 to 16 April 2026, through its Maritime Unit and in collaboration with its Internal Audit, EUCAP Somalia delivered a Search And Rescue (SAR) Quality Management course in Mogadishu, aimed at strengthening the operational and institutional capacities of Somali maritime stakeholders.

The training brought together personnel from the Somali Police Force - Department of Coast Guard, the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre Mogadishu, and the Attorney General Office Somalia, fostering inter-agency cooperation and promoting a shared approach to quality management in SAR operations.

The course strengthened Somali SAR stakeholders' capacities by applying ISO 9001:2015 quality management principles, including the Plan-Do-Check-Act cycle, risk-based planning, defined roles and leadership structures, and the use of key performance indicators, audits, and corrective actions to drive continuous improvement.

Overall, it reinforced a more coordinated, performance-oriented, and sustainable SAR system aimed at improving operational effectiveness and saving lives at sea.
