HR and /sys/tur strengthen collaboration on women in technology

Reykjavik University and /sys/tur, an association representing women in computer science at RU, have entered into a three-year partnership agreement aimed at supporting the association's activities and encouraging women's interest in education and careers in technology, particularly computer science.

The partnership includes, among other things, RU providing /sys/tur with facilities for workshops and educational meetings, subject to availability. RU will also provide technical support for remote lectures and support the association's participation in events such as Researcher's Night, Technology Days and UTmessan.

As part of the agreement, RU will provide /sys/tur with an annual grant of ISK 400,000 to support the association's activities, divided equally between RU's Department of Computer Science and School of Technology.

The partnership also includes consultation between /sys/tur and RU on larger events and initiatives related to issues concerning women in technology, as well as promoting each other's activities where appropriate.

"The agreement is an important step for /sys/tur and gives us even better opportunities to strengthen the community of women and non-binary people in computer science at RU. With the school's support, we can continue to create a platform where women build connections, meet role models, and discover the diverse opportunities that await them in the technology sector," says Brynja Lóa Bjarnþórsdóttir, president of /sys/tur.

The goals of /sys/tur include strengthening connections among women at the university and introducing members to the association's work, role models, and the experiences of women in the technology sector. The association will continue to organize events and projects that support these goals and participate in larger events such as International Girls in ICT Day, UTmessan, and Researcher's Night.
