RPT offering “A Warm Place to Be”

December 12, 2025 - ROCHESTER, MINN. - In response to extreme cold wind chill conditions this weekend Rochester Public Transit (RPT) will implement "A Warm Place to Be," a program that allows those who need to escape dangerous weather conditions to board an RPT bus without paying a fare.

Starting with Saturday, December 13 morning service, and extending through Sunday, December 14, those caught outside in a dangerous situation can simply notify an RPT driver that they need to escape the cold and warm up, and no fare will be charged to board the bus.

Interim Transit and Parking Director Rachel Fautsch shares, "Our transit vehicles are on the streets and in the neighborhoods 365 days a year. When the conditions outside are dangerously cold, we encourage people to board a bus to stay safe."
