Clerk López on Postmaster General’s Comments on Ballot Delivery

Clerk López on Postmaster General's Comments on Ballot Delivery

Published on June 24, 2026

At a Senate hearing earlier today, Postmaster General David Steiner indicated that the U.S. Postal Service would refuse to deliver mail ballots in states that do not comply with handing over sensitive voter information to the federal government.

To be clear, the U.S. Postal Service has only one role in elections - to deliver ballots. The Postmaster General's proposed plan grossly exceeds USPS's legal authority, violates states' rights to administer their own elections under the Constitution, and undermines Colorado's mail-ballot model. We remain committed to defending every Coloradan's right to vote and will challenge any attempt to undermine our elections.
