Provide Input on City Council Decorum Rule

The Council Rules Ad Hoc Committee invites residents to provide input on the City Council's rule on decorum online through April 30 or in person at the committee's April 27 meeting.

This City Council committee is reviewing the Rules of Order and Procedure for the Aurora City Council to ensure that council meetings and other functions are conducted to serve the public and ensure effective council collaboration.

The council will review all sections of the City Council rules, but at this time, is seeking specific feedback on decorum.

The committee began its work with proposals on decorum and virtual participation at meetings because the City Council has received extensive prior feedback on these topics.

The committee initially discussed this topic at its March 24 meeting, during which time public comment was available.

Residents may submit feedback online at EngageAurora.org/Decorum. Input submitted by April 23 will be considered by the committee at the April 27 meeting, but the survey will remain open through April 30 for additional input. Residents also may provide comment in person at the April 27 meeting, which is at 5:30 p.m. at the Aurora Municipal Center, 15151 E. Alameda Parkway, Aurora Room.

Following the April meeting, the committee will draft revised rules on decorum for additional feedback, which will be gathered online and accepted at the committee's May 21 meeting. The committee may hold additional town hall meetings and listening sessions as needed.

After the committee has decided on the final recommendations, they will be heard at a council study session and a council regular meeting for final decision-making.

More information on the committee is available at AuroraGov.org (search for Council Rules Ad Hoc Committee).
