2026 USDA E. Kika De La Garza Fellowship Program applications open

Applications are open for the USDA E. Kika De La Garza Fellowship Program, for faculty, staff or administrators employed at Hispanic-Serving Institutions or Hispanic-Serving School Districts work with USDA agencies to learn about opportunities available for their institutions and students.

The USDA E. Kika De La Garza Fellows Program has hosted more than 400 faculty and staff since its establishment in 1998 to strengthen relationships with HSIs. Currently, there are 615 HSIs nationally, serving more than 5.6 million students. There are three types of fellowships available:

  • Education Fellowships - for faculty, staff, and administrators employed by HSIs to participate in a one-week program in Washington, D.C.
  • High School Education Fellowships - for secondary education superintendents, principals, agricultural and/or district level teachers working for a HSSD to participate in a one-week program in Washington, D.C.
  • Science Fellowships - for science faculty employed by HSIs to collaborate with leading scientists from USDA. Participants attend the one-week program in Washington, D.C., and subsequently spend an additional week at a USDA research facility.
