Council Approves Grants Supporting Communities Across Boston

During this week's Council meeting, the Council approved several grant awards that will support neighborhood improvements, preserve Boston's historic resources, enhance public safety infrastructure, and expand services for older adults across the city.
  • $810,000 - Awarded by the Boston Planning and Development Agency to support enhancements to Phillips Square in Boston's Chinatown neighborhood, improving the public space and surrounding community
  • $251,708 - Save America's Treasures Grant awarded by the National Park Service to the Office of Historic Preservation. The grant will support the preservation and care of artifacts excavated from the Parker-Harris Pottery Site in Charlestown, including collections maintenance, staffing, and consultant services
  • $150,000 - FY26 Fair Share Supplemental Funds awarded by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation to the Public Works Department. The grant will fund the replacement of public safety lighting in the Brighton neighborhood
  • $50,978 - Federal FY26 Title III-C Nutrition Services Program Grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, through the Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs, to the Age Strong Commission. The grant will support nutrition services for older adults in Boston
  • $23,860 - Federal FY26 Title III-A Area Plan Administration Grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, through the Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs, to the Age Strong Commission. The grant will support the administration of Title III programs serving older adults
  • $18,116 - Federal FY26 Title III-D Disease Prevention & Health Promotion Grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, through the Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs, to the Age Strong Commission. The grant will fund programs that help older adults prevent illness and better manage chronic health conditions
