Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Hu Changchun Visits Ethiopia

On December 10, 2025, Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Hu Changchun visited Ethiopia and met with Foreign Minister Gedion Timothewos. Chargé d'Affaires a.i. of the Chinese Embassy in Ethiopia Sun Mingxi and other officials were present.

Hu Changchun stated that over the 55 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Ethiopia, political mutual trust has been continuously strengthened, and practical cooperation has been constantly deepening. China is ready to work with Ethiopia to follow the guidance of the common understandings reached by the leaders of both countries, jointly advance the implementation of the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and the Outlook on Peace and Development in the Horn of Africa, continue to advance the development of the all-weather strategic partnership between the two countries, and jointly safeguard regional prosperity and stability.

Gedion Timothewos spoke highly of the bilateral relationship, stating that since the establishment of diplomatic relations, bilateral cooperation in various fields has yielded fruitful results, setting a benchmark for China-Africa relations. Ethiopia is willing to work with China to continue deepening bilateral relations under the framework of the FOCAC, implement the Outlook on Peace and Development in the Horn of Africa, and make greater contributions to peace and stability in the region and the wider Africa.
