Rep. Haas Gets Hands-On Surgical Technology Tour at Prairie State Community College

KANKAKEE - State Representative Jackie Haas (R- Kankakee) toured the surgical technology program at Prairie State Community College with fellow legislators. Surgical technologists play a very complex role in the O.R., ensuring the equipment, instrumentation, and sterile field are all in proper form and work directly alongside a surgeon during the entire operation. To gain a better understanding of their job and the importance of accredited training, Rep. Haas "scrubbed-in" to a mock surgery. Prairie State is one of 20 accredited programs throughout Illinois.

"My recent trip to Prairie State Community College for a hands-on mock surgical experience was incredibly enlightening," said Haas. "It showed me the incredible learning opportunities our students have here that will set them up for success as our next generation of healthcare workers.
