The Real Estate desk is thrilled to welcome Elizabeth A. Harris to the desk as a new reporter. This is a return for Liz, as her first reporting job was on the Real Estate desk, and she later wrote The Appraisal column about real estate for Metro.
Liz has been a reporter at the Times since 2009. She has covered books and the publishing industry, education, culture, New York politics and, of course, real estate. I personally admired her recent piece (and companion video ) about the disappearance of the mass market paperback and her series on book bans across the United States (which won an award from NLGJA: The Association of LGBQT+ Journalists).
"I've worked with Liz on two desks now - Culture and the Book Review," said Book Review editor Gilbert Cruz, "and on both she demonstrated one of my favorite qualities in a reporter: seemingly endless curiosity! (Also, beautiful writing, always keeping the reader in mind, you know, all that stuff.)"
On Real Estate, Liz will be a general assignment reporter and will cover a wide range of topics, including commercial and residential real estate, design and the intersection of culture and home. We're confident Liz's wide-ranging experiences across the newsroom and deep curiosity will add a new vita lity to our coverage.
In addition to her work here, Liz is also an author. Her first novel, "How to Sleep at Night," was published last year and her second novel will be out next year. Liz is a born and raised New Yorker, and she lives in Washington Heights with her wife and kids.
Please join me in extending your congratulations to Liz.
