A juvenile whale carcass remains wedged among rocks at Lurline Bay, with overnight high tides unfortunately failing to move it out to sea as hoped.
Given its location is some distance from nearby beaches, Council Lifeguards have decided to reopen Coogee beach today with swimmers urged to swim between the flags.
Maroubra beach remains closed due to dangerous surf conditions.
People should avoid Lurline Bay and not swim or enter the water in the immediate area. The area remains barricaded off.
Council is continuing to work with Gamay Rangers, La Perouse Local Aboriginal Land Council and the State Government to consider options that are culturally respectful and prioritise community health and safety.
