The European Commission Joint Research Centre (JRC) awarded a framework contract worth $112 million (about €97.6 million) to an Amentum-led joint venture to lead the cleanup of nuclear research sites in four European countries.

Under the contract, the Amentum JV with WSP Italia, supported by subcontractors TUV Rheinland and Protection Solutions SRL, will provide decommissioning and waste management services to accelerate the remediation of JRC nuclear sites in Ispra, Italy; Karlsruhe, Germany; Geel, Belgium; and Petten, the Netherlands.

For more than 60 years, JRC sites have provided independent scientific advice to European Union policymakers by conducting research in areas such as nuclear decommissioning, innovation, safeguards, and nonproliferation.

The work: The JRC contract will cover the handling of structures such as research reactors, hot cells, accelerators, laboratories, and other infrastructure where radioactive materials have been used.

The JV's scope of work includes licensing, radioactive waste management, radiation protection, decommissioning and nuclear engineering, worksite management and safety, nonnuclear engineering, facility supervision, and quality assurance.

The contract has a duration of two years with three potential two-year extensions.
