Premier Cho: Updated TPASS 2.0 to ease commuting and advance sustainability goals

At Thursday's weekly Cabinet meeting, Premier Cho Jung-tai was briefed by the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) on TPASS 1.0's performance and the new TPASS 2.0 plan. The premier said that since the July 2023 launch of TPASS-a monthly travel pass providing unlimited travel across various modes of public transport-more than 11 million passes have been purchased as of the end of 2024. Furthermore, in 2024, public transportation ridership from January to October reached approximately 890 million trips-an increase of about 30% compared to the same period in 2022. These results clearly highlight the successful efforts of both the central and local governments.

The premier said the MOTC's promotion of TPASS 2.0-a new plan offering rebates to frequent users of public transportation-will provide more diverse reward options to encourage greater use of public transportation. This initiative not only aligns with the government's policy goals of sustainability, energy saving and carbon reduction, but also eases the public's commuting burden. He praised the plan and asked the MOTC to proactively follow up with its implementation.
