The Santa Margarita Water District Board of Directors elected Betty Olson as the Board President, and Laura Freese was selected to serve as Vice President, marking a transition in the district's leadership.
Three board members, Betty Olson, Frank Ury, and Margaret Novak were sworn into office on December 12, officially assuming their roles on the SMWD Board of Directors. Margaret Novak fills the seat previously held by Charles Gibson. Novak's appointment is expected to bring fresh perspectives and energy to the district's governance.
"I am honored to take on this leadership role and to work with such a talented team," said Betty Olson. "Together, we will focus on continuing the district's mission to provide reliable and high-quality water services to our community."
Laura Freese expressed enthusiasm for her new position as Vice President. "Collaboration and forward-thinking strategies are key to addressing the water needs of our region," she noted. "I look forward to working closely with my fellow board members and the community."
The Santa Margarita Water District delivers water, recycled water, and wastewater services to over 200,000 residents in southern Orange County. As the district moves forward with its strategic initiatives, the contributions of its newly elected and returning members are expected to play a pivotal role in shaping a resilient and efficient water system for the region.
Charles Gibson's retirement marks the end of a remarkable tenure characterized by commitment and progress. His 12 years on the board have left a lasting impact, and the district extends its gratitude for his years of service.
