‘I Am Part of Something Bigger Than Myself’

Marine Corps veteran Allison Krezman, 25, resides in Salem, Massachusetts, with her three cats: Gomez, Fester and Lulu. As a VFW Claims Consultant, she helps veterans apply for VA disability and other benefits.

"I honestly feel so grateful and fulfilled that I get to help my people," Krezman said. "Meeting veterans from all eras to hear the history we create and to assist and support them makes me feel like I am part of something bigger than myself."

Krezman served in the Marines for four years and became a corporal. She decided to enlist to challenge herself.

"A lot of people said they did not think I could handle it, so I decided to prove everyone wrong," she said.

After her service, Krezman knew she wanted to work with the Marines or veterans. She said her greatest achievement is hard to pinpoint because assisting veterans is an everyday success.

"Being honest about what route to go and being that person in their corner to help is an accomplishment," Krezman said.

She responds to emails and status updates and answers questions from veterans during her workday. By night, Krezman is a full-time undergraduate student majoring in law. She has assisted her own former staff sergeant with a claim, making the experience of helping others come full circle.

"I will always take pride in this job and helping veterans," Krezman said. "We are here to help you, and we care. The VFW will always have your back."
