Habemus Papam! Cardinal Prevost Elected as the 267th Pope

On May 9, 2025, Interim University President Fr. Dempsey Rosales Acosta shared the following message with the campus community.

Dear Members of the UST Family,

At the University of St. Thomas, we rejoice at the proclamation of "Habemus Papam!" In divine Trinitarian love, the Holy Spirit guides our Catholic Church by choosing our new servant-shepherd, Pope Leo XIV. This historic moment marks the first time a pope born in the United States has been chosen. He is a man who said "yes" to God's calling and dedicated his life to serving others through the missionary work of the Augustinian Order and now the Lord continues to call him to a greater service.

We gratefully acknowledge the Holy Spirit's presence among the College of Cardinals and offer our prayers and unwavering support as Pope Leo XIV begins his Petrine ministry.

May God bless Pope Leo XIV with wisdom and understanding. May he become a prophetic voice of the Gospel to the world, bringing greater glory to God by leading all the faithful closer to Him, the source of all that is good.

Ad multos annos, Pope Leo XIV.

Laudetur Iesus Christus,

Fr. Dempsey Rosales Acosta

Interim President
