We're encouraging young people to pick up a book and get reading by launching a free community bookshelf at our Appledown Gate development.
The Coventry Community Bookshelf has been set up by our Midlands team at our Appledown Gate development in Keresley to celebrate the joy of reading while encouraging young people to pick up a book and improve their literacy skills.
The Coventry Community Bookshelf allows Taylor Wimpey residents and the local community to simply swap one of their used novels for something new or pick up a book in exchange for a donation of their choice.
This year, donations will go to Coventry charity, Tiny Tim's Children's Centre, who assists with helping individuals improve the quality of life by increasing mobility, self esteem and reducing pain for those with disabilities.
Sarah Hemings, Centre Manager at Tiny Tim's Children's Centre said: "We are extremely grateful to Taylor Wimpey Midlands for their generous support towards our charity. We offer free assistance to families where treatment is either limited or not available to them via the NHS, and although our centre is based in Coventry, we will treat any child who is in need."
"There has been a steady increase in our demand for our support in recent years and the proceeds from the Coventry Community Bookshelf will be able to help with services such as remedial massage, touch therapy and therapeutic play."
With the on-going cost-of-living crisis we have continued our literacy support throughout the Midlands by recently launching a Little Free Library at our Valiant Fields development in Upper Lighthorne, allowing residents to pick up a new novel or simply leave a book behind for others to enjoy.
"We are so excited to have launched a free community bookshelf in Coventry, as well as our Little Free Library in Upper Lighthorne. Reading is a lifelong skill that improves memory, vocabulary, and supports cognitive development so it's important to show young people how exciting picking up a new book can be - we hope our residents and the local community continue to enjoy the free bookshelf in many years to come."
