Duckworth Underscores the Trump Administration's Ongoing Attacks on Reproductive Freedom in Post-Roe America

[WASHINGTON, D.C.] - Ahead of the four-year anniversary of the Supreme Court's disastrous Dobbs decision that overturned the constitutional right to choose, U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) slammed Donald Trump and the radical, anti-freedom movement that has women's lives in danger and continues to push for extreme laws that would lock up women and doctors, prohibit safe and effective medication and ban IVF. At U.S. Senate Democratic Senate Pro-Tempore Patty Murray's (D-WA) spotlight forum, Duckworth and other Senate Democrats heard from panelists who have suffered the consequences of the Dobbs decision and subsequent Republican abortion bans firsthand, including from Chicago Abortion Fund Executive Director Megan Jeyifo. Duckworth and Jeyifo highlighted how families are suffering through an affordability crisis as prices for daily necessities, groceries, gas and more are skyrocketing. These high costs make it even more essential for organizations like the Chicago Abortion Fund to assist families that are already struggling to put food on the table. Duckworth's full remarks can be found on the Senator's YouTube.

"Trump proudly proclaims himself as the 'pro-life' champion who struck down Roe v. Wade," said Duckworth. "There's nothing 'pro-life' about putting women in danger, undermining the right to contraception or denying IVF access to hopeful parents, including our nation's servicemembers and Veterans."

With Chicago Abortion Fund being the largest abortion fund in the country, Executive Megan Jeyifo provided critical testimony before Congress. 1 in 4 people in the U.S. traveling for abortion care rely on Illinois.

"The majority of people who have abortions are parenting. Parents are struggling right now." said Jeyifo. "There are so many things that parents need in order for their children to just survive, let alone thrive, and we are not giving them… the basic things they need to survive. It is not just that person that is being impacted, it is their entire family."

"Chicago Abortion Fund is often people's only hope to get the reproductive healthcare they need," said Duckworth. "Illinois is proud to be a safe haven for those seeking reproductive health care both inside and outside of our state-and Democrats will continue to work to restore reproductive rights for every American-no matter where they live."
