New Community Built Playground at St. Johns Park

What do you get when gather 45 committed community members?
A new playground at St. Johns Park in the Strawberry Hill Neighborhood Built in one Day!

On May 7, 2025, volunteers from several Unified Government departments, including Parks and Recreation, Environmental Services, Building & Logistics, Fleet, and I.T., collaborated with members of the Strawberry Hill Neighborhood Association and a host of community members to build a playground at St. Johns Park in the Strawberry Hill Neighborhood.

This full day build project was funded by a generous donation of $70,000 from the Strawberry Hill Neighborhood Association (SHNA), as well as a donation of $10,000 from TURF. The project was spearheaded by ATHCO to ensure that placement and construction was completed properly.

Volunteers started their efforts at 7:30AM and successfully completed the playground by 3:30PM. Following the completion of the build, volunteers along with community members and elected officials enjoyed an official ribbon cutting ceremony to welcome the new park to the Strawberry Hill Community.

"This playground isn't just a place to play; it's a symbol of what is possible when a community believes, shows up and keeps going," said Parks and Recreation Director Angel Ferarra. "Parks bring people together, but it's the people who bring the parks to life!"
